Dr. Emily Mitten grew up fostering homeless dogs and cats from animal shelters and always knew that she wanted to continue her passion of saving animals as a career. As part of her undergraduate studies, she participated in a specialized internship at Best Friends Animal Society in Utah focusing on animal training and behavior modification. She received her bachelor's degree in Animal Science at Iowa State University and then went on to attend veterinary school at Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Mitten has particular interests in surgery, dermatology, behavior and preventative medicine. She completed the Fear Free certification training and strongly believes that minimizing stress during veterinary visits is essential for emotional well-being. In her free time, Dr. Mitten enjoys spending time with her kids, helping out with local animal rescue groups, and working on home renovation projects with her husband, Justin. Together, Emily and Justin have two daughters and three rescued pups - two German shepherds named Finneus and Silas, and one senior pit bull mix named Nellie.
