Dr. Kay Roe's veterinary career grew out of her childhood experiences with the human-animal bond. Growing up in Duluth, Minnesota, Dr. Roe developed an interest in animals when she was just a young girl. While volunteering at her town's animal shelter, Kay saw timid, unsettled dogs and cats respond to volunteers' love and affection. Kay's Lake Superior Zoo work also showed her the value of human attention. Today, Dr. Roe still enjoys watching animal behavior, and she delights in seeing animals learn and grow!

After spending her childhood in Duluth , she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the College of St. Benedict. Following several years in medical device quality assurance work, Kay embarked on her veterinary medicine career path. She enrolled at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, and after much hard work earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Roe joined the VCA PineRidge care team in June 2012. She was already familiar with the hospital, as she had completed a graduate externship there as a veterinary student. Dr. Roe was immediately drawn to the hospital's welcoming atmosphere and staff camaraderie, and she jumped at the opportunity to join the practice.

Dr. Roe has found that she enjoys the challenges of internal medicine. She feels a sense of satisfaction when she correctly diagnoses a patient's ailment so she can prescribe an appropriate treatment. Dr. Kay also finds dentistry quite rewarding, and she likes to see a pet's healthier mouth and whiter teeth after a good dental cleaning. Dr. Roe also emphasizes the benefits of preventive pet medicine, as the pet's entire family can also remain healthier.
