PASADENA, Calif.--VCA Charities, VCA Animal Hospitals, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and the Pasadena Humane Society (PHS) have teamed up to hold their first VCA Charities Pet Food Pantry food distribution event in Pasadena. The event will be held Saturday, August 3rd from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Pasadena Humane Society located at 361 S. Raymond Ave., Pasadena, CA 91105.

VCA Charities is proud to expand its national Pet Food Pantry (PFP) program to the Pasadena community. In June 2010, VCA Charities launched the first Pet Food Pantry location in Venice, CA to provide healthy, nutritious pet food to pet owners affected by the economic downturn.

"At that time, an increasing number of pets were being taken to animal hospitals for euthanasia or abandoned when their owners could no longer bear the cost of caring for them,” said Brandon Antin, VCA vice president of social responsibility and innovation. “By providing free meals, we have helped many families hold onto the loving and comforting bond their pets provide.”

The program was created to provide nutritious pet food to needy families to help keep their pets healthy and happy. The PFP has since expanded to 33 locations in 21 states, including the latest Pasadena location.

The Pet Food Pantry program is co-sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, which donates the pet food. The annual cost to supply the pet food for each pantry location is approximately $5,000. Each year, the program provides more than 300,000 meals to dogs and cats in need. Since the program was launched, VCA Charities and Hill’s have provided these pets with more than two million meals.

This valuable program comes to the Pasadena area thanks to the dedication and hard work of local VCA Animal Hospitals associates and Pasadena Humane Society staff and volunteers who bonded together to help those in need.

“We are so appreciative to the Pasadena Humane Society and the local VCA hospital associates for stepping up to help make a better world for pets,” said VCA Charities Director Ryne Meadors. "By establishing the VCA Charities Pet Food Pantry program here, we are able to partner and work with the Pasadena Humane Society to make a difference in the lives of pets in the local community.”
