Abigail Weir, DVM (she/her), is a veterinarian at VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Toxicology and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis. Throughout veterinary school, Dr. Weir was actively involved in a low-cost spay, neuter, and wellness clinic, an experience that strengthened her commitment to making quality veterinary care accessible to more families.
Originally from Grass Valley, California, Dr. Weir has a special interest in surgery and diagnostic imaging. She also spent several years raising two puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, one of whom became a working guide dog while the other joined the organization's breeding program to help produce future generations of guide dogs. Watching both dogs go on to make a difference reinforced her appreciation for the human-animal bond and the lasting impact animals can have on people's lives.
Outside of work, Dr. Weir enjoys trying new restaurants, cooking at home, gardening, hiking, and practicing archery. She shares her home with Yuzu, her beloved Japanese Akita; Honey, a senior guinea pig she rescued during veterinary school; and a thriving planted aquarium that is home to nearly 100 dwarf Caridina shrimp.
