Intensive Care

VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital offers both an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Critical Care Unit (CCU) for treating your pet during times of critical need. Your primary care veterinarian will determine if your pet requires the ICU or CCU services of our hospital and make appropriate recommendations for transfer of care when necessary. Pets requiring ICU or CCU are often very ill and require specialized nursing staff and veterinarians to give them the best chance to pull through a crisis. Specialist in the field of veterinary critical care are often needed to tend to the needs of these very ill patients. These specialists have completed residency training in the field of Emergency and Critical Care. The nursing staff are also trained in advanced techniques and monitoring, and may have undergone additional certification.
