Mary was born and raised in Cassville, Wisconsin, with nine siblings. Her undergraduate degree is in Business Administration-Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for her veterinary degree. Mary moved to the northwest after graduating from vet school due to the weather and great outdoor recreation.

Mary has two golden retrievers named Foster and Idgie, and two cats named Dexter and Liberty.
