Prior to becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Harmon worked as a music/event producer. When her beloved Golden Retriever, Shayna was diagnosed with lymphoma, her attention turned to Shayna's treatment and she decided to enroll in veterinary school and earn her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Though Shayna lost her life after a two year battle with cancer. Dr. Harmon’s life was changed forever. She loves being a veterinarian and enjoys working with clients and healing their pets.
A native of Greenlawn, NY. Dr. Harmon attended the State University of New York at Binghamton and received her Bachlor’s Degree in Music in 1991. After 10 years in the music industry, she returned to school and earned her Master’s Degree in Biology/Pre-Med at Hofstra University in 1999. She continued her veterinary education at St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine as was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2005.
Dr.Harmon is particularly interested in internal medicine, general surgery and new pet welfare, among other areas of veterinary medicine. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the New York Veterinary Medical Association and the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association. She also is a contributor to the Veterinary Information Network.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Harmon enjoys a number of outdoor pursuits, skiing, hiking, and boating. She can also be found reading and cooking in her spare time, as well as spending time with her husband, daughter, and her English Cream Retriever Berry.
