Dr. Erin Koperna was born and raised in Delaware. Her love for animals was discovered early in life while helping on the family dairy farm. The morning calf bottle feedings were the spark that led Dr. Koperna to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She received dual bachelor's degrees in Dairy Science and Animal & Poultry Sciences from Virginia Tech. She continued her education at the Royal Veterinary College in London, where she earned her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed), the UK equivalent of a DVM. In veterinary school, she discovered her love for small animal medicine and surgery. Dr. Koperna returned to the States to further her education by completing a rotating Internship at Oklahoma State University, where she trained with specialists in emergency, critical care, surgery, and internal medicine. She then completed a specialty surgical internship at a specialty hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, where she worked closely with board certified surgeons to gain a multitude of surgical experience.
Dr. Koperna is committed to providing the highest quality medicine to her patients. She works closely with the pet parent to create the best care plan for both her patients and their fur families. Dr. Koperna's professional interests include soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.
Since moving to the island, Dr. Koperna has rekindled her love for scuba diving, reinforced her love for boba tea, and found a new love in taking her two dogs for walks on the beach.
