Staff Veterinarian
Dr. Valerie Bartell is originally from northern Michigan, but transplanted to Oregon over ten years ago, and happy to call it home. She received her Bachelor's in biology from Warren Wilson College, a small liberal arts school in Asheville, North Carolina. While there, she worked on the campus farm with chickens, cattle, and pigs gaining valuable animal handling skills. After graduation, Dr. Bartell spent several years doing environmental education with AmeriCorps.  Getting back to her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Bartell then moved into medicine, working as a veterinary assistant for three years. She went on to received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oregon State University, graduating at the top of her class. After graduation, Dr. Bartell has been practicing general small animal medicine in the Portland area. She has a special interest in internal medicine and preventative health care, working to keep pets at their best from birth to old age. She understands that the bond we share with our pets is something truly special, and is honored to be a part of these relationships.

Dr. Bartell lives in Portland with her husband, their son, their dog Lizzy, and two tabby cats named Ginger and Cleo. In her free time, Dr. Bartell enjoys everything the northwest outdoors has to offer and can be found hiking, rock climbing, or backpacking. She also enjoys gardening, cooking healthy food, and traveling to new places.
