Dr. Westhof grew up in Tucson and graduated from the University of Arizona (go Wildcats!) with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture in 1992. She then went on to attend veterinary school at Washington State University in Pullman, WA and graduated in 1997. Her favorite part of attending school and being in Pullman,( lentil capital of the world!) was that she was able to enjoy all four seasons, including winter, while living there. It's fair to say that Washington gets much more snow than she was used to! While still attending veterinary school, she considered working with fish and marine mammals upon graduation. Some things you might not have known about Dr. Westhof: she worked in a research lab helping study kidney disease in fish, she also did 2 externships during her time as a veterinary student. One at Sea World in San Diego where she was able to help ultrasound a pregnant dolphin and also learned how to clean the penguin enclosure. The second externship was at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. While at the aquarium she was able to work with variety of exotic fish and the beluga whales! She ultimately returned to Arizona, to be back near her family and settled into work with small animals. Her favorite thing about working at Tri City, is the family atmosphere of our clinic. It has been a true honor and passion of hers to be able to take care of our clients pets' at puppy or kitten hood, and throughout their adult and senior years. Dr. Westhof currently resides in Gilbert with 5 goldendoodles(Holly, Beckett, Lance, Libby and Lynx), 2 cats(Macky and Tess), 1 goldfish and as of August 2014, about 35 society finches that used to reside at our old location. In her time outside of work, she has enjoyed raising several pups to be service dogs. She is in the process now of raising/training, Lance, a 2 year old goldendoodle, to be a service dog who will likely be paired with an autistic child in the next 6 months. She is currently pursuing further education and a specialty certification in animal physical rehabilitation.
