Radiology

Our hospital offers routine radiology services. Radiology is the study and science of x-rays, which are used to help your veterinarian diagnose a problem or a disease in your pet.

X-rays are capable of detecting multiple diseases, such as:

  • arthritis
  • fractures
  • bony tumors and other forms of cancer
  • heart enlargement and congestive heart failure
  • bladder and kidney stones
  • stomach or intestinal foreign bodies
  • pneumonia and other lung diseases
  • ... and much more.

X-rays are part of a diagnostic work-up if your pet is having a problem, or as part of a general wellness examination in an older pet to detect potential problems early. If it is safe for your pet, it is likely that the veterinarian will recommend sedation for this procedure. This is because it will relieve your pet's stress and discomfort while laying in uncomfortable positions, allowing for more efficiency in obtaining quality images. Although the veterinarian will provide an immediate assessment of the radiographs, these films are also submitted for review by a radiologist, as a second opinion.

If more advanced radiology services are required in the diagnosis of your pet (such as abdominal ultrasound, MRI, CT Scan, or fluoroscopy), our veterinarians may refer you to the services of Dr. Crochik or Dr. Rosenstein at VCA South Shore (in Weymouth).

Ask our staff or veterinarians if you have questions about our Radiology Services.
