Dr. Garretson grew up in Colorado and wanted to be a veterinarian from a young age. She began working at a veterinary clinic in high school as a kennel technician and worked her way up to veterinary assistant. She earned her bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Colorado Sate University in 2009, while working in a veterinary immunology research laboratory. She received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 2014 in addition to becoming certified in veterinary medical acupuncture.
