Hospital Overview

VCA East Penn Animal Hospital has been offering quality health care to the dogs and cats of Emmaus and the Lehigh Valley for over half a century. We're proud to be serving the following communities; Fogelsville, Macungie, Alburtis, Allentown, East Texas, Salisbury, Orefield, Center Valley, Coopersburg and Limeport. Our practice was started in a small building here on Chestnut Street and has grown over the years into its current size. We have been through several additions and renovations, to help us keep up with the changing standards of veterinary care. We have recently completed the renovation of our treatment and surgical areas. Please visit the hospital tour portion of our website or our renovations page to see our remodeled hospital. Please feel free to stop in to visit our hospital and tour our facility.

At VCA East Penn Animal Hospital our top priority is to strengthen the human-animal bond by focusing on high quality, comprehensive health care for all stages of your pet's life. Our doctors see a variety of animals ranging from dogs and cats to reptiles (snakes, turtles, iguanas, & other lizards) and limited small mammals. We offer wellness and geriatric/senior care, illness/sick pet examinations, dentistry, surgical services (spay, neuter, as well as soft tissue and several orthopedic procedures), diagnostic testing, nutritional counseling, bathing, limited grooming, and dog and cat boarding.

Local Medical Issues

There are numerous medical issues that can impact your pets' health, it is important to remember these year round. For example, heartworms, can affect both dogs AND cats. Heartworms can cause serious respiratory disease and even be fatal. There is no treatment for cats with heartworm, only prevention. Since it is transmitted by mosquitoes, which thrive in our region, it's a serious cause for concern. Winter temperatures do not get cold enough in this area to kill mosquito eggs; it is a year round risk. Don't be fooled, strictly indoor pets are at risk too as it is common to find mosquitoes in our homes. Likewise the potential for flea infestation is also common. Fleas irritate everyone in the household. They often transmit intestinal parasites to our dogs and cats; this is why yearly intestinal parasite screening is important, even for our indoor only pets. Fleas can also be the cause of skin allergies and other blood borne diseases. Another problem affecting both humans and pets is Lyme disease, which is transmitted by ticks. Lyme disease can cause serious health issues such as, joint pain, kidney failure, neuropathies, and other fatal complications. Due to the mild weather in this region ticks live through the winter, putting everyone at risk year round. Allow our staff to educate you on the preventative health care products we carry.
