Endoscopy

Advanced Endoscopy for Pets at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital

At VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital, we’re proud to offer endoscopy for pets—a minimally invasive, state-of-the-art diagnostic tool that allows our veterinarians to see inside your pet’s body without major surgery. Endoscopy is one of the most powerful ways we can quickly and safely diagnose a variety of conditions, helping your pet feel better faster.

What Is Endoscopy?

Endoscopy uses a long, narrow tube with a tiny camera and light at the tip. This special camera allows us to see full-color, magnified images of your pet’s internal structures in real time. The endoscope can be rigid or flexible depending on the area of the body being examined.

How We Use Endoscopy for Pets

With your pet safely under anesthesia, an endoscope can be inserted:

  • Through the mouth to examine the esophagus, stomach, and upper intestine
  • Through the nose to examine the trachea and main airways
  • Through the anus to examine the colon and lower intestine
  • Through a tiny incision to examine organs such as the liver or kidneys or to inspect joints (arthroscopy)

We can also use endoscopy to:

  • Remove small foreign objects that pets sometimes swallow
  • Collect biopsies of internal organs for diagnosis without open surgery

Benefits of Endoscopy for Your Pet

  • Minimally Invasive: Less pain, faster recovery, and reduced complications compared to open surgery
  • Real-Time Imaging: High-resolution views help our doctors make quick, accurate diagnoses
  • Safer Diagnoses: Shorter anesthesia times and minimal incisions
  • Therapeutic Capabilities: Removal of foreign bodies and targeted tissue sampling
