Dr. Kelly Moffat was born in Phoenix and moved to livestock property in Gilbert when she was just 6 years old. She quickly accumulated a menagerie of pets, spending the majority of her time raising and showing dairy goats. After high school, she attended Arizona State University and a year at University of Arizona, and graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She then attended Colorado State University, graduating with her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1993. She stayed on at CSU to complete an intensive yearlong small animal medicine and surgery internship.
Dr. Moffat joined Mesa Veterinary Hospital in 1994 and practiced small animal medicine for 4 years before deciding to join a residency program in veterinary behavior. While continuing her general job duties as a small animal veterinarian, she worked with her mentor, Dr. Gary Landsberg (from Toronto, Ontario) to complete her course work and case requirements for her residency and passed her certifying exam in 2004. That same year the hospital joined the VCA family, changing the name to VCA Mesa Animal Hospital, and Dr. Moffat became the Medical Director. Due to her interest in the human-animal bond and internal medicine, Dr. Moffat continues to see general practice cases, perform dentals and some small surgeries in addition to her specialty behavior consults.
Dr. Moffat is an avid proponent of Low Stress and Fear Free handling in the veterinary clinic and promotes this in everyday cases at Mesa Animal Hospital. Dr. Moffat lectures nationally at veterinary conferences, has written numerous articles, and book chapters. She is a member of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and American Animal Hospital Association.
Dr. Moffat has quite the family at home to include one amazing daughter, 4 dogs, 3 cats, a horse, 2 guinea pigs, 10 chickens, a tortoise, and a fish. She likes working in her yard and jogging. She is active in the local Kiwanis club and enjoys volunteering her time with multiple organizations around the valley helping less fortunate people, children, and animals.
