Dr. McGowan is a High Desert native. She grew up in Victorville, California, and graduated from Victor Valley Senior High School. She started her veterinary career working at the Baltimore Zoo. She also worked as a veterinary technician for several local veterinary hospitals before veterinary school.
Dr. McGowan attended Ross University and the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2004. Dr. McGowan has been practicing in the High Desert since 2009.
