It’s no secret to us that cats can learn new tricks. Perhaps you’ve already taught them how to sit and respond to their name but are looking for something novel. Teaching your kitten new tricks not only provides you with much-needed entertainment, but it also helps to exercise your young cat’s busy mind. If you’re looking for a new activity to do with your cat or something fun to teach them, look no further! Consider the following tricks for your cat:
- Sit pretty: Train your cat to sit upright on their haunches. This one is quite the core workout!
- Wave: Your visitors will love to see your cat wave farewell.
- Spin: Teach your cat to turn in a circle. Bonus points if you can get them to spin in either direction!
- Roll over: Though people often think of this as a dog trick, your cat can learn it, too! We don’t think there’s anything much cuter than a cat rolling over.
- Weave: Teach your kitten to weave in between your legs as you take steps! This trick takes a little bit of balance and coordination on your part.
- Hoop: For this one, you’ll be training your kitten to jump through the hoop. Start with the hoop low enough that your cat just has to walk through the hoop to get to the treat. Once they get the hang of walking through the hoop, you can begin to raise the hoop to encourage them to jump through.
- Around the World: You are the world, and your kitten is the moon in orbit. Rather than spinning on their own axis, your kitten will go in a circle around you.
Remember to always use positive reinforcement when training your young cat. For more complex behaviors, you may have to reward small steps in the right direction. With a little bit of patience, your cat will be the smartest feline on the block.
