Dr. Bertsch grew up in north Texas before moving to Rhode Island as a teenager. She attended the University of Rhode Island, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in animal science and a double minor in musical performance for flute and Spanish language. She then attended the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada. In her free time, Dr. Bertsch enjoys reading and spending time with her family, friends, and two guinea pigs, Kai and Manfred.
