Dasuquin® Soft Chews go above and beyond traditional glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate products on the market because Dasuquin® contains NMX 1000 avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU), formulated with glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate. This sets Dasuquin® apart from any other joint health supplement for dogs and cats. And all in a tasty, chewable tablet that can be given as a treat or crumbled and mixed with food. Clinical trials suggest that Dasuquin® may help to alleviate the pain and stiffness of knee and hip osteoarthritis and reduce the need for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). ASU Avocado/soybean concentrate has been shown to improve joint function and comfort levels. ASU complements the positive effects of other active ingredients in Dasuquin® by lowering the production of several compounds that cause cartilage breakdown in joints. Dasuquin® is also available in a formula with MSM. Your veterinarian can advise you on which formula is best for your dog.
glucosamine hydrochloride, sodium chondroitin sulfate, avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) powder
While sensitivity to avocados has been reported in a few dogs, taking Dasuquin® tablets is not the same as eating whole avocados. The ASU in Dasuquin® has been evaluated in a safety study in dogs, and no adverse effects were noted from administration. There are no known contraindications or known interactions between Dasuquin® and any drug or nutritional supplement.
ASU (avocado/soybean unsaponifiables) is obtained from avocados and soybeans. A potent ingredient demonstrated to help protect cartilage, which leads to continued healthy joint function, ASU complements the effects of the other ingredients. While working via their own primary mechanisms of action, ASU, glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate together deliver comprehensive joint health support. Nutramaxx's trademarked glucosamine hydrochloride, chondroitin sulfate, and avocado/soybean unsaponifiables together were shown in cell studies to be better than the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate alone at inhibiting expression of several agents involved in cartilage breakdown.
The recommended initial administration period is 4-6 weeks; however, some dogs may respond in a shorter period of time. If desired, the number of Dasuquin soft chews may then be reduced to a maintenance level. The maintenance level can also be used long-term on healthy dogs to help support their joints. Dasuquin Soft Chews are also available for dogs in formulations containing MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane). Dasuquin with MSM for Small to Medium Dogs contains 400 mg MSM, and Dasuquin with MSM for Large Dogs contains 800 mg MSM.
