We have plans for all stages of life to help your pet live a long happy life from the early years through the geriatric years. We tailor each pet's treatment plan to suit their individual history, environment and lifestyle.
In addition to our excellent medical care, we also have a large boarding facility If you're going away, you can relax, knowing that your pet is in the best hands. Special dietary and medicals needs can be provided during your pet's stay with us. Your canine and feline friends will enjoy scheduled time outside and if you are away more than four days, your dog will receive a bath so he/she is fresh and clean when going home. Aldrich Animal Hospital has a full line of prescription and non-prescription foods. Stop in and discuss your pet's dietary needs with one of our doctors.
Local Medical Issues
There are numerous local medical issues that can impact your pet's health and that require your attention over the entire year. For example, there's heartworm, which can affect both cats and dogs. Since it's transmitted by mosquitoes, which thrive in our region, it's a serious cause for concern. And because the winter temperatures here do not get cold enough to kill mosquito eggs, it's a year-round risk. The same is true for flea and tick infestation and intestinal parasites, each of which poses a problem in any season. And finally, contrary to what you'd expect, allergies are a year-round issue. Many pets suffer from skin and ear allergies, the signs of which include scratching, redness in the ears, and "scaly" skin.
Canine Flu Alert!
Many of our clients have asked about the threat of canine influenza to their dogs.Canine flu is a highly contagious respiratory virus with nearly all dogs that are exposed becoming infected within a few days after exposure. This disease is highly contagious, so dogs that are around other dogs (boarding, grooming, dog shows, dog parks, contact with neighbors' dogs) are at increased risk.
About 80% of exposed dogs will go on to develop signs. Typical symptoms resemble those of kennel cough: a persistent cough (often accompanied by a nasal discharge). Some dogs go on to develop pneumonia and can become critically ill.
A new vaccine is available that can help reduce this risk. Please schedule an appointment today at Aldrich Animal Hospital to discuss this emerging threat to your dog.
