Monika Kaelble

Co-Medical Director, Criticalist

DVM, DACVECC

Dr. Monika Kaelble is a board-certified Emergency & Critical Care Specialist and Co-Medical Director at VCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center. She obtained her DVM from UC Davis, followed by a small animal internship at Purdue University. Dr. Kaelble then moved to San Diego and practiced as an emergency veterinarian before pursuing a private practice residency in Emergency and Critical Care. An established leader in the San Diego veterinary community, Dr. Kaelble has dedicated her time to both patient care as well as hospital management. Her passion lies in teaching, training, and supporting the professional growth of veterinary team members including 20 classes of interns. 

Professional Interests:
Dr. Kaelble has a special interest in critically ill endocrine and metabolic patients and transfusion medicine. She is also deeply invested in veterinary team culture, fostering an environment of learning and collaboration.

Personal Interests:
Outside of work, she enjoys traveling the world with her family and spending time in her garden.

  • Her last name is pronounced "Cable"—just like cable TV.
  • She shares her home with a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, tortoises, turtles, chickens, geckos, frogs, and a coral tank.
  • She and her family love Escape Rooms and have solved over 50.
