Dr. Tessa Meland joined VCA in 2020 at a specialty hospital in Arizona, where she launched and led the Neurology service. In July 2025, she transferred to VCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center to bring her passion for neurologic care to San Diego. She's excited to continue building neuro services and loves making complex neurology approachable for both teams and pet families.
Dr. Meland earned her BA in Biology from the University of San Diego in 2010 and her DVM from Purdue University in 2016. She completed a rotating internship and neurology residency at the University of Florida, finishing her specialty training in 2020.
Her clinical interests include neurosurgery, seizure management, and inflammatory brain disease, but she finds the greatest reward in educating clients and helping them better understand their pet's neurologic condition.
