Dr. Christina Canis was born in Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Science degree with honors in biology from Virginia Tech in 2005. During college, she worked at a small animal hospital as a veterinary assistant, volunteered at the Virginia Tech Sheep Center, and was selected to participate in the Marine Resources Population Dynamics Workshop in Florida. Inspired by her high school AP biology teacher, she made the decision to apply to veterinary school because of her passion for biology and her desire to work closely with both animals and people.
Dr. Canis graduated from The Ohio State University of Veterinary Medicine in 2010 with a DVM degree, graduating in the top third of her class. While in veterinary school, she was selected to travel to an animal shelter and hospital in Medina del Campo, Spain, to advance her surgical techniques, manage wound care, and perform ultrasound examinations. During her last year of clinical rotations, she worked in Cincinnati at a variety of veterinary emergency and referral practices to hone her skills in ophthalmology, internal medicine, oncology, surgery, and emergency medicine.
In her free time, Christina enjoys the great outdoors, hiking, painting, traveling, being with family and friends and her shelter-adopted dog, Herman.
