kitten energy pt 2

Your kitten’s boundless energy is sometimes hard to keep up with! Not only are they sometimes struck with the zoomies, but you can almost see their brains working to stir up trouble. We’ve discussed how to exercise your pet’s body to cope with boundless energy; now, we’re going to focus on their minds.

Your young cat’s curious mind can get them into trouble sometimes. It can lead them to chew on electric cords, eat dangerous foods and to attempt escaping for a neighborhood adventure.

Follow these tips to keep your young cat’s inquisitive mind busy.

  1. Consider puzzle feeders. These interactive feeders require your cat to use their brain to get the prize—either treats or their food! In some cases, these puzzles can encourage physical activity in addition to working your cat’s mind.
  2. Keep up on training. Remember that cats can learn tricks, too!
  3. Hide your cat’s food or treats around the house. This encourages them to “hunt” for their meals, utilizing their natural predator instincts.
  4. Provide multiple cat trees and hiding places so that your cat has options to choose from.
  5. Make toys available on a rotating schedule to help keep things fresh.
  6. Put up window perches. Your cat will enjoy surveying their kingdom outside the window.
  7. Turn on some cat TV. You can search for videos meant for cats. It can also be fun for you to watch as your cat interacts with the animals on the screen.
  8. Repurpose cardboard boxes into cat houses or tunnels. You know the saying: “If I fit, I sit.” Cats love boxes!
  9. Grow cat-friendly plants like cat grass or catnip for your cat to chew on and explore.
