Norristown, PA - October 29, 2018 - VCA Animal Hospitals in the north-Atlantic region and the Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) in Georgetown, Delaware are continuing efforts to help hundreds of pets that were evacuated from animal shelters affected by Hurricane Florence. The displaced pets evaluated by Brandywine’s Rescue & Rehab Center have already started to find new homes.

Nineteen regional VCA Animal Hospitals volunteered to help adoptable cats and kittens find forever homes, so the center could accommodate the many additional rescues that need assistance following this disaster. To date, 21 cats have been adopted and additional adoptions are expected in a dedicated effort to assist Brandywine Valley SPCA who is now taking in pets from shelters impacted by Hurricane Michael as well.

“We are pleased that the partnership between VCA and Brandywine is helping shelter pets that have been displaced by multiple disasters,” said Lisa Hewlett, VCA Regional Operations Director. “The hurricanes are putting additional strain on local resources and we are much stronger working together, so we can help many more animals.”

To help support BVSPCA with this massive rescue effort, VCA embarked on a regional fundraising campaign to aid the Rescue & Rehab Center care for the hundreds of adoptable shelter pets that have been displaced with no place to go.

“There is still a significant need for funding to support the ongoing rescue and adoption efforts,” said Art Antin, Chief Operating Officer of VCA Animal Hospitals. “With $7,000 raised so far, VCA will continue its fundraising campaign until the end of the year, with a goal to raise $3,000 per hospital, which would total more than $50,000.”

The following VCA Animal Hospitals have cats and kittens for adoption and can accept donations to help Brandywine Valley SPCA support the significant cost of the center and continue their important rescue work.

About Brandywine Valley SPCA

Founded in 1929, the Brandywine Valley SPCA is the first open admission no-kill shelter in Pennsylvania and Delaware. In 2017, the BVSPCA cared for more than 14,000 stray, owner-surrendered, wayward owned, and abused and neglected animals while achieving a 96% live release rate. The BVSPCA provides animal protective services for Chester County and much of Delaware County in Pennsylvania, and it holds a five-year contract with the Delaware Office of Animal Welfare to provide state-wide animal services for dogs. Animals are placed through four adoption centers: the West Chester Campus, the New Castle Campus, the Georgetown Campus, and a PetSmart® Everyday Adoption Center in Dover.
