Acupuncture

Good news for pet owners! Certified Pet Acupuncture, Chiropractic, and Physical Therapy are now available at VCA Tiara Rado Animal Hospital. Your access to holistic Integrative Medicine connects with traditional diagnostic, surgery and advanced treatments to offer the best health outcomes for your dog or cat. Increasingly people like you use and are familiar with these therapies, and understand the benefits of your pet’s wellness.

What is Pet Acupuncture?

One the world’s oldest practices, Veterinary Acupuncture has been used for centuries in China to produce healing. Acupuncture involves the gentle insertion of very fine metal needles into specific energy points of the body where nerve bundles and blood vessels intersect. Needles are left in place or slightly rotated for 10-20 minutes. Rather than scaring animals, many cats and dogs find acupuncture very relaxing and get sleepy.

“I find that using Acupuncture and Chiropractic modalities together result in greater benefit for the animal’s health,” said Troy Everson DVM, CVA, CVCT, Veterinarian at VCA Tiara Rado Animal Hospital. Dr. Everson is so passionate about Integrative Medicine that he is Certified in Veterinary Acupuncture (CVA) and Certified in Veterinary Chiropractic Medicine (CVCT). See Dr. Everson’s bio.

Acupuncture Health Benefits for Your Dog or Cat

  • Pain management: the body’s painkillers release endorphins, the immune system mobilizes white cells to fight off infection and reduce inflammation, while nerves increase blood circulation and relieve muscle spasms. Relaxation of muscles at the site of needle insertion create both local and generalized pain relief.
  • Nervous system disorders: seizures, paralysis, neuropathic pain.
  • Musculoskeletal problems: arthritis, muscle soreness, back pain, disc problems.
  • Digestive system disorders such as diarrhea, vomiting, constipation can be normalized by stimulating digestive secretions
  • Hormone disorders: diabetes, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism.
  • Respiratory disorders: coughing, asthma, allergies are calmed with anti-inflammatory action.
  • Skin problems like allergic dermatitis, itchy hot spots are helped with improved circulation.

“Our integrative medical modalities, including Acupuncture and Chiropractic therapy, can be a wonderful tool to maintain comfort and/or performance for your pet. These treatments are very gentle and I feel they have been a blessing to my own aging animal family as well as to my patients,” says Dr. Everson.
