Dr. Van Lanen is the head of our Emergency and Critical Care Department. She was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. She graduated magna cum laude from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois with a degree in biology. She obtained her DVM in 2010 from The University of Illinois where she graduated with honors. She completed a one year small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at VCA Aurora and VCA Berwyn and then a three year emergency and critical care residency at VCA Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg, Maryland before joining our team. Dr. Van Lanen became board certified in 2014 and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Dr. Van Lanen's professional interests include transfusion medicine, coagulation, sepsis, and feline medicine. In her free time, Dr. Van Lanen enjoys the theater (especially musicals), puzzles, great food, and spending time with her family and friends, including her three dog and four cats.
