Your Community Partners

Caring for pets means meeting a wide range of needs beyond health care. Fortunately, there’s a whole community of organizations and businesses eager to help.

Here’s where to meet the local groups that we recommend to our pet-loving families.

Animal Rescue of the Rockies

Animal Rescue of the Rockies pulls homeless dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters and places them in loving foster homes until their forever homes are found. We promote spaying and neutering to reduce pet overpopulation and encourage quality relationships between pets and their people through behavior resources and training.

Colorado Greyhound Adoption

Colorado Greyhound Adoption is a non-profit organization 501(c)3 devoted to placement and adoption of greyhounds. We are 100% volunteer-run, and available dogs are fostered in individual homes. Based in the metropolitan Denver area, our volunteer base continues to grow, as more and more greyhound enthusiasts become involved. Colorado Greyhound Adoption is the largest of the groups in terms of the number of adoptions with 383 adoptions our last fiscal year. Our group is racing neutral and receives no track funding or support.

There are several greyhound adoption organizations in Colorado. A few factors distinguish the groups. Basically, those include the adoption process itself, sponsorship and group support. We have a tremendous support network to provide answers to questions and assistance during and after the adoption process.

Another distinguishing factor is whether the dogs are adopted directly from the racing kennels or whether they are adopted from foster homes. We use the foster home approach. Our group has some good relationships with several racing kennels. When the kennels have dogs ready for retirement, they contact us, and we schedule a temperament/cat testing session and add the dogs to our list. When we have a foster home available, we schedule a vet appointment, transport the dog(s) to the vet appointment and when the vet procedures are complete, the foster parent picks up the dog from the vet. The advantage you receive as an adopter from the foster home method is that the foster parent gets a chance to teach the dog about things like stairs, windows, house training etc. that they have never had experience with in the past.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to send us a message. We are always more than happy to answer your questions and want you to be an informed adopter. You are invited to join our e-group. You can get feedback and answers to questions from over 400 families that share interest and knowledge of greyhounds via the e-group.

Colorado Greyhound Adoption also accepts MasterCard and Visa for donations, adoptions, membership and merchandise sales. If you would like to make a donation using your credit card, please visit our online store.

Retriever Rescue of Colorado

Believing that all Retrievers deserve a safe, loving home, the mission of Retriever Rescue of Colorado is to rescue abandoned, abused, neglected and unwanted retrievers and to promote public education on animal-related issues. Rescued breeds will include Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Curly Coated Retrievers, Flat Coated Retrievers, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers.

All of our dogs are fostered prior to adoption. Our organization prides itself on providing safe and promising second chances to these dogs while they await their new homes. Our foster homes allow for social development and many times direction for learning basic commands, housebreaking and exposure to children, cats, and other dogs.

Depression rates of puppies and dogs kept for long periods of time in a shelter rapidly increase with each day as they wait for a new home. Foster homing can assist in alleviating unnecessary stress for some of our dogs who have come to us under serious circumstances.
