Derrick, Veterinary Assistant

Derrick is originally from Kiowa, Colorado, where he was raised on a family owned and operated ranch. As a child and into his teenage years, Derrick developed valuable skills and gained insightful knowledge about companion animals as well as livestock. With an extensive background in animal husbandry, a strong passion for public health, and a powerful dedication to self-development, Derrick joined the VCA family in October of 2021. His special interests include internal medicine as well as animal behavior.

In his free time, Derrick enjoys swim instructing, jewelry designing, and spending time in nature. Derrick is currently working towards his certification as a veterinary technician, and feels as as though he has found his home away from home here at VCA Douglas County Animal Hospital.
