Dr. Skylar Sparks was born and raised in Shelbyville, Illinois. She began her studies at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois as a Music major, believe it or not! She grew up loving music and animals and was very torn when beginning her higher education. After about a year as a Music major she switched to Biology but kept her music as a minor and added in a chemistry minor as well. During her time in undergrad she was a collegiate athlete in track and cross-country as well as holding positions in her sorority Tri-Delta. She received her veterinary degree from St. George's University and filled her free time there singing in the Vet Band and exploring the island.
Her special interests include emergency, exotics (pocket pets), and feline medicine. In her free time, Dr. Skylar enjoys spending time outdoors whether it's traveling, exercising, or going to the beach. Other than being a veterinarian, she continues to practice her singing and hopes to join a small band in the area.
She is very excited to be at the VCA HAH this year and hopes that the year will help her decide if she wants to pursue a residency or possibly another internship in exotic animal medicine.
