Dr. Lear was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in economics and business at UCLA. After a number of years in the business community he refocused his career goals, and attended veterinary school at the University of Prince Edward Island, Atlantic Veterinary College. After graduating in 2003, he moved to Cape Cod, where he practiced both general and emergency medicine for nine years. He has been working for VCA for five years. Dr. Lear has a strong interest in preventative medicine, soft tissue surgery, pain management, and acupuncture.
Dr. Lear's interest in acupuncture began in veterinary school, where he founded a student chapter of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. His goal has been to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western medicine, as he believes that there are indications and limitations for both therapies. He obtained his certification from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2007. Dr. Lear's future plans include certification in canine rehabilitation, and certification with the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.
Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, food, friends and continuing his education. His favorite thing about being a veterinarian is that every day is a new day!
