Betsy H. Martinez

Associate Veterinarian

DVM

Dr. Betsy H. Martinez was born in Rhode Island and raised in Central Florida. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Central Florida and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Tennessee. She completed a one-year small-animal internship at VCA Veterinary Care Animal Hospital and Referral Center in Albuquerque, NM, and practiced for five years at VCA West Mesa, NM, before returning home to central Florida to be close to family.

Before pursuing veterinary medicine, Dr. Martinez worked as a train conductor at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom—an experience she fondly remembers as working at “the happiest place on Earth”—and later served in the United States Army as an ammunitions specialist.

In addition to caring for dogs and cats, Dr. Martinez has worked with a variety of animals, including horses, tigers, and other wildlife, through animal husbandry and rehabilitation programs. Her professional interests include ophthalmology, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry. She finds the most rewarding part of veterinary medicine is improving animal welfare, saving lives, and strengthening the human–animal bond.

Outside of work, Dr. Martinez enjoys traveling nationally and internationally, skiing, hiking, gardening, painting, binge-watching anime and K-dramas, and spending time with her daughter, family, and her two dogs and three cats.
