Lacy GilMurray, Co-Medical Director

DVM

Dr. GilMurray joined the VCA Calvert Veterinary Center team in June 2013. She grew up in Frederick, Maryland, where she developed a passion for medicine and animals, and started working in veterinary hospitals at the age of 14. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland College Park (Go Terps!) in the honors college and earned a bachelor’s of science in physiology and neurobiology with a minor in Spanish language in 2009. She then earned her doctorate of veterinary medicine from the University of Florida, where she focused on small and exotic animal medicine. While at school, Dr. Gilmer traveled to Honduras, Thailand and Vietnam to work with the conversation of endangered animals such as asiatic black bears, pangolins, clouded leopards, turtles, and elephants.

Dr. GilMurray joined VCA Calvert Veterinary Center to be at the forefront of gold standard veterinary care, and to be part of a clinic that treats each other, and their clients and pets, as if they are family. Enjoying all aspects of veterinary medicine from dermatology to behavior, Dr. GilMurray has a special interest in reptile, avian and small mammal medicine, and has been integral in starting and expanding the exotic animal practice at VCA Calvert. She was also selected to present two of her research papers at the national exotic animal veterinary conference, ExoticsCon, in 2018, and is a member of the Associations of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians, and her local and national Veterinary Medical Associations.

Dr. GilMurray lives in Annapolis with her husband Peter and their small menagerie of pets, including dogs Luke and Solo, and cat Chewbacca, and her ball python Aayla. She is clearly an avid Star Wars fan, and also enjoys being active, participating in yoga, sailing, camping and hiking, and is a devoted sports fan, following all of Maryland’s teams. She loves to travel the world to scuba dive and discover new food and wine, and relaxes by gardening, painting, or curling up with a good book.
