Dr. Suzanne Kuczynski Lange, known as Dr. KL, graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins with both her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees. She attended Princeton University in New Jersey for her undergraduate degree in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, where she trained in tropical biology with the Smithsonian in Panama and did research alongside the USDA on parasites that transfer from raccoons to other animals and humans. Her work with wildlife veterinarians there started her passion for veterinary medicine, and she has been working in the field ever since. Her activities in veterinary medicine have been wide-ranging and have included doing skin biopsies on wild rhinos in South Africa, publishing research with the CDC, and volunteering with unhoused pet owners to meet their primary care needs.
Dr. KL grew up in Lima, Peru, with her American and Peruvian parents as well as many, many animals, ranging from dogs and cats to alpacas and 80-year-old Amazonian tortoises. She is a native Spanish speaker and loves serving the local Hispanic community. Her medical interests include preventive medicine as well as feline medicine; her particular area of interest in general practice is in dermatology and allergy. Dr. KL is also passionate about One Health, the idea that the health and well-being of humans, animals, and the environment are all dependent on one another. She hopes to strengthen the wellness of the entire Northern Colorado community by treating our pets with skill, respect, and kindness.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. KL loves being at home with her husband and their three cats, Plum, Penguin, and Pollo. She enjoys rock climbing, watching Formula 1 and RuPaul's Drag Race, cooking, scuba diving, tending to her houseplants, and spending time with her parents and friends.
