Dr. Amy Van Simmons lives in Waxhaw, NC, with her husband, daughter, and their two dogs, Jager the German shepherd and Grimm the Siberian husky. Originally from Syracuse, NY, Dr. Van Simmons's family still resides there, and she enjoys visiting whenever she can.
Before attending veterinary school, Dr. Van Simmons worked as a veterinary assistant at VCA Fairmount Animal Hospital in New York. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Fordham University in the Bronx before attending the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine, where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). Since graduating, her primary focus has been small animal general practice and surgery, with particular interests in soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and animal behavior.
As a Fear Free certified practitioner, Dr. Van Simmons is dedicated to providing a positive and stress-free veterinary experience for both pets and their owners. Her goal is to foster the human-animal bond while minimizing stress for animals during their visits. Dr. Van Simmons is passionate about maximizing preventive care to help pets live the happiest, healthiest, and longest lives possible. She is committed to providing high-quality care at an affordable cost using the most current medical practices.
Excited to be in the warm weather of North Carolina, Dr. Van Simmons is grateful to practice in a compassionate and familiar VCA environment. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, golfing, and camping with her dogs.
