Hometown Care at VCA Kootenai Animal Hospital

Our surgical doctors have a combined 30 plus years of experience in performing anything from simple procedures to complex orthopedic cases. We offer spay, neuters, dental procedures, including dental radiology and extractions, mass removals, BOAS surgeries, including stenotic nares, soft palate, and saccules. We also offer orthopedic procedures including complex fracture repairs, luxating patella repair, and Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO). Dr. Rogers and Dr. Reijm have both completed extensive training for the TPLO procedure as well as with fracture repairs. We use interlocking plates which strengthen fixation and reduce implant failures for TPLO and fracture repairs. With use of an radiology program called vPOP the doctors are able to plan for their TPLO and fracture repair procedures, measuring the patients bones precisely to make their customized surgical plan prior to anesthesia. Our veterinarians also use the Ellman surgitron, a specialized piece of equipment that reduces healing time and cauterizes vessels during procedures. Pain management is very important to our doctors and they utilize nocita, a long acting pain reliever for larger procedures.

We provide preventative care including yearly vaccinations, exams, bloodwork and flea and tick preventative. We see patients for common issues including skin issues, geriatric issues, and behavior issues. We offer same-day appointments (when available) for urgent and emergency needs. With in-house radiology and blood machines we can get answers quickly when your pet isn’t feeling their best. Our hospital also works with a traveling boarded veterinary radiologist that comes in as needed to perform more complex testing with ultrasonography.
