Kelly

Licensed Veterinary Technician

LVT

When you trust someone with your pet, you want to know they will care for them with the same attention and compassion they would give their own. That is how Kelly approaches every patient she cares for at VCA Merrimac Animal Hospital in Williamsburg, VA. As a credentialed veterinary technician, she brings nearly 15 years of veterinary experience to that promise, including extensive time in emergency and critical care and experience caring for a broad range of species.

That breadth of experience means Kelly has cared for pets in many different circumstances, from everyday veterinary needs to moments when a patient is critically ill and a family is frightened and uncertain. Those experiences have taught her to adapt to what the individual patient needs while remembering that behind every pet is someone who loves them deeply. For Kelly, the value of that experience is being able to draw from what she has learned across many different situations to provide thoughtful care for the pet in front of her today.

“There’s nothing like being able to help a pet and their family through a time of need. Being there for both of them is one of the reasons this work means so much to me.”

Kelly earned a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science with a minor in Chemistry from Plymouth State University before earning her associate degree in Veterinary Technology from Blue Ridge Community College. She is also Fear Free Certified and RECOVER CPR certified, additional training that complements her hands-on experience and supports her ability to provide attentive care while considering both a pet’s medical needs and their comfort during the veterinary experience.

Kelly’s experience with animals began long before her veterinary career. She grew up on a New England farm surrounded by many different animals, and her first job caring for them was on a dairy farm in Maine. From those early experiences to later working with small and large animals, exotics, and wildlife in veterinary medicine, Kelly has developed a deep appreciation for the unique needs of different animals. That lifelong connection with animals helps her approach each pet as an individual and adapt her care to what they need.

“I approach every pet by thinking about how I would want someone to care for one of my own. I want them to be treated with kindness, understanding, and compassion, because I know how much they mean to the person who loves them.”

At VCA Merrimac Animal Hospital in Williamsburg, Kelly brings a depth of perspective shaped by the many different patients and situations she has encountered throughout her career. She draws on those experiences while staying focused on what the pet in front of her needs today. For clients, that means having an experienced veterinary technician by their pet’s side who brings knowledge, perspective, and a steady presence to their care.
