Tony Bickett

Hospital Manager

Veterinary care feels different when the people caring for your pet also take the time to know you. For Tony, hospital manager at VCA Merrimac Animal Hospital in Williamsburg, VA, building those relationships is an important part of creating the experience he wants every family to have. He believes great care should feel personal because every pet is different, every family has their own needs, and the people who walk through Merrimac's doors are more than clients. They are friends and neighbors the team may have the privilege of caring for through every stage of their pet's life.

As hospital manager, Tony helps set the vision for the experience VCA Merrimac strives to provide, both for the families who walk through its doors and the team responsible for caring for them. With more than 20 years of management experience, he brings a relationship-focused approach to leadership, helping create an environment where people feel known, communication is attentive, and every pet and family is treated as an individual. For Tony, that experience is not created by one person. It comes from a team that understands what the hospital stands for and works together to bring that vision to life every day.

“The experience we create for families starts with our team. I want our people to understand why relationships matter here and feel connected to the kind of hospital we want to be for our community.”

Those relationships are also what Tony enjoys most about his role. He values being able to welcome a family with a new puppy or kitten and then continue seeing them as their pet grows through the years. For Tony, those moments create something larger than a single hospital visit. They give the team an opportunity to know the people and pets they serve, understand what matters to them, and build relationships that can span a pet’s lifetime.

That connection to community is personal for Tony. He grew up in Mathews, Virginia, less than an hour from VCA Merrimac, and has always considered this area home. Leading a hospital here means caring for the pets and families of a community he genuinely cares about. For Tony, being part of that community makes it even more important that people feel known when they walk through Merrimac's doors, not simply as clients, but as friends and neighbors.

“Every pet and family who comes through our doors is different, and I want their experience to reflect that. My standard is simple: I want every pet to receive the same thoughtful, personal care I would want for my own.”

At VCA Merrimac Animal Hospital in Williamsburg, Tony helps bring together the people, relationships, and shared purpose that shape the hospital’s experience. His role is not simply to manage what happens within the hospital, but to help define what the hospital strives to be for the people and pets it serves. For Tony, that means a place where the team shares a clear vision, families feel known, pets are treated as individuals, and every relationship has the opportunity to grow over a lifetime.
