Hospital Overview

Welcome! Located in south Austin, on the corner of Manchaca Road and Kimono Ridge Dr., VCA Tanglewood is a friendly, comfortable, medically full service AAHA accredited veterinary hospital. Our caring and skilled veterinarians provide well pet and sick pet services, for puppies and kittens, adult dogs and cats, and senior pets as well as small exotics. Our services include physical exams, vaccines, spay, neuter, and pet dental care; surgeries, hospitalization, digital x-ray, ultrasound, and laboratory testing. Ask us about CareClub, the affordable monthly wellness plan. We carry Hill's Science and Prescription Diets, Royal Canin therapeutic pet food, and a variety of treats. We work closely with several local rescue groups and animal shelters including the Austin Animal Center, the Austin Humane Society, PAWS and Austin Pets Alive.

We welcome you to VCA Tanglewood where we care about you and your pet, and will help you take the best possible care of your lovable companion. Our doctors are knowledgeable and skilled veterinarians, and kind and compassionate individuals. Along with our friendly front office staff and well trained patient care team, we will provide exceptional service to you and your pet. In the community since 1986, we are here to serve you.

Local Medical Issues

Central Texas is a wonderful place to live, especially for fleas and ticks. We recommend AcuGuard and Simpleguard for dogs and Revolution for cats to help keep your pets free of these parasites.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease spread by contact with urine from an infected animal, including dogs, raccoons, squirrels and skunks. "Lepto" can cause serious health issues, and is transmittable to humans, which is why we recommend annual lepto vaccines for dogs.

We also recommend an annual intestinal parasite exam to check for giardia. Giardia is a parasite that pets and people can get from drinking infected water. With all of our rivers and lakes in Austin, this is a common problem, and can be easily detected with an intestinal parasite test.

There are other viruses, diseases and parasites that can affect your pet, and the doctors at VCA Tanglewood Animal Hospital will discuss the diagnostics and preventatives we recommend on an individual basis.
