Advanced Care

Digital Radiology

As veterinarians, we must rely on diagnostic tools such as radiographs and ultrasounds, to make treatment plans for patients that cannot explain what part of their body requires care.

These tools allow us to review internal portions of the patient's body for change. The high frequency digital radiology systems utilized at Animal Hospitals Champions Northwest and Jones Road are specifically for veterinary use. Radiographs, or X-rays, can help veterinarians identify broken bones, intestinal blockages, tissue masses and abnormalities.

Ultrasonography uses sound waves to generate images of internal structures. The ultrasound provides definition to tissue abnormalities, fluid filled encapsulated areas, and internal organs. We perform echocardiograms, which provide a picture of the heart and blood flow through the chambers, using ultrasound technology. Our veterinarians may also use the ultrasound to guide biopsies and cystocentesis, a procedure to collect urine directly from the bladder.

In many cases, we combine X-ray and ultrasonagraphy technology as low invasive procedures that aid in making accurate patient diagnoses.
