Kara Holland, Staff Veterinarian

Dr. Kara Holland began working at VCA as a veterinarian in July 2018; however, she started working here as a kennel technician and veterinary assistant during summer breaks since 2013. Dr. Holland considers Edmond to be her hometown, though she moved several times growing up (eleven different cities!) She takes pride in being a veterinarian and does not take the responsibilities that come along with the profession lightly. She states that, "the career allows me to not only make a difference in animals' lives, but also their families. While I like to see all my patients happy and healthy, I enjoy diagnosis and treating challenging cases." Dr. Holland believes that every workday is unpredictable and new, there is never a boring day at the office.

Dr. Holland graduated from Edmond North High School in 2011. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and minor in Biochemistry. She then continued her education at OSU and graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. In her free time, Dr. Holland enjoys hanging out with family and friends. She travels and tries to take one huge trip with her husband once a year. During the fall she says, "Saturdays are only for the boys--the Oklahoma State football team, that is." The whole Holland crew/family are OSU alumni and during football season, the pokes are a number one priority on the weekends.

Growing up, Dr. Holland was involved with many sports and exercising and it is still an important aspect of her life as an adult. Her favorite activity, though, is running and especially with her dogs. Dr. Holland has two dogs, Ollie and Howie. Ollie is a 5-year-old Labradoodle who she has had since he was 8-weeks-old. He loves watching TV and will become anyone's best friend if you have a tennis ball in hand. Howie is estimated to be 5-years-old, as well. Howie was adopted from the shelter and therefore his breed is undetermined; however, based on his looks (and his amount of shedding) they think he is a Lab/Pyrenees mix. Dr. Holland says that Howie is not the smartest dog, but loves to cuddle and is a great addition to their fur family.
