Dr. Ashley Ponteres is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She is a 2001 graduate from North Carolina State University with a Bachelors in Animal Science and minor in Genetics. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from North Carolina State University in 2006. She then went on to complete Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship (University of Georgia; 2006-2007) and a Small Animal Internal Medicine Residency (North Carolina State University, 2007-2010). She became a Diplomate of American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM) in 2010.
During her residency at North Carolina State University, Dr. Ponteres was highly trained in all aspects of internal medicine. She is proficient in many interventional procedures including endoscopy (cystoscopy, rhinoscopy, gastroduodenoscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy), laser applications (lithotripsy of uroliths, paramesonephric ligaments, and correction of ectopic ureters) and stent placement (tracheal and urethral). Beyond interventional medicine, Dr. Ponteres also has a particular interest in nephrology/urology and critical care medicine. These interests include the management of chronic urinary tract disease as well as acute renal injury/glomerular disease. Dr. Ponteres is also a member of the Society of Veterinary Nephrology/Urology.
