Dr. Amber Leavis knew from a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian. Her childhood was spent being surrounded by cats and dogs, as well as small mammals (hamsters and rabbits) and birds. In college, she honed her clinical skills and education by working as a technician at a local veterinary hospital. Dr. Leavis received her Bachelor of Science degree in animal and veterinary sciences, with a minor in business, from the University of Rhode Island and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Leavis went on to complete a small animal community medicine internship at Angell at Nashoba in Massachusetts. She moved down to South Carolina and worked for a year and a half at another clinic before joining the VCA family. Her clinical interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and dermatology. Dr. Leavis manages a mini zoo of her own at home with a Lab/beagle mix named Dakota, two cockatiels (Belle and Gaston), and fish. In her free time, she enjoys baking, reading, photography, and gardening!
