Behavior Counseling

At VCA Peone Pines Animal Hospital, we understand that behavioral challenges can be stressful for both pets and their families. Whether your pet is exhibiting anxiety, aggression, destructive tendencies, or other unwanted behaviors, our team is here to help. Dr. Morley offers behavior counseling and works closely with pet owners to develop personalized treatment plans that improve the quality of life for both pets and their families.

What to Expect from a Behavior Consultation

A behavior-specific consultation at VCA Peone Pines Animal Hospital is a longer, more in-depth appointment than a standard annual visit. During this session, Dr. Morley will take a comprehensive history of your pet’s behavior, including:

  • A review of past and current medications
  • An in-depth discussion of behavioral concerns in the home
  • Consideration of environmental stressors, such as recent moves, new pets, or changes in household routines
  • The presence of other pets or new family members

Each behavior consultation is tailored to your pet’s unique needs, ensuring a customized approach to treatment.

How to Prepare for Your Behaviorist Appointment

To make the most of your behavior consultation, we recommend bringing:

  • Video recordings of the concerning behaviors
  • A behavior log detailing the frequency, triggers, and context of the issues
  • Notes on past interventions or training attempts
  • Contact information for prior trainers that have been consulted
  • Complete medical records provided to the hospital prior to the appointment to allow adequate time for Dr Morley to review
  • Current medications

These resources help Dr. Morley better understand your pet’s behavior and create an effective treatment plan.

Treatment Options for Behavioral Issues

Behavioral concerns are rarely resolved in a single visit, but our team provides ongoing support. Treatment strategies may include:

  • Environmental Modifications: Adjustments to your pet’s surroundings to minimize stressors
  • Medication Management: If necessary, medications can be prescribed to help manage anxiety or other behavioral challenges
  • Training Tools & Techniques: Guidance on positive reinforcement training and behavioral conditioning
  • Follow-Up Appointments: Ongoing evaluations to track progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed
