Advanced Care

Soft Tissue Surgery

At VCA Peone Pines Animal Hospital in Mead, WA, we offer a wide range of soft tissue surgeries to address a variety of health concerns for your pets. Soft tissue surgery involves procedures on any body part excluding bones, joints, heart, or the nervous system. Our experienced team, led by Dr. Valerie Sinclair, provides advanced surgical care to ensure your pet’s comfort and speedy recovery.

Common Soft Tissue Surgeries

Soft tissue surgeries are performed for a variety of reasons, from removing foreign objects to treating diseased organs. Some of the common procedures we offer include:

  • Gastrointestinal Surgery: To remove foreign objects or diseased sections of the intestine.
  • Bladder Surgery: Often to remove stones or polyps.
  • Mass Removals: Removal of any masses or growths.
  • Spleen Removal: Often needed for removing diseased spleens or masses.

Advanced Surgical Training for Complex Procedures

Dr. Sinclair, our skilled veterinarian at VCA Peone Pines, has received additional advanced training in performing intricate surgeries. This training allows us to offer highly specialized procedures to help pets in need of complex care. If your pet requires any of these advanced surgeries, a consult will be scheduled to assess their eligibility and ensure the best possible outcome.

  • Episioplasty and Vulvoplasty: Addresses abnormalities in the vulva and surrounding areas. Pets that have abnormal anatomy can suffer from recurrent infections, skin infections, urine scald, and discomfort. Both surgeries aim to correct these problems to provide comfort and improve their life.
  • Salivary Gland Resection (Removal): In some cases, pets may develop salivary gland issues, such as tumors or infection. Salivary gland resections involve the removal of one or more of the affected glands to prevent ongoing problems. This surgery helps restore normal salivation and oral health.
  • Anal Sacculectomy: An option for pets suffering from recurrent anal gland issues that don’t resolve with other treatments. By removing the glands, we aim to eliminate pain and discomfort and eliminate future abscess.
  • Ventral Bulla Osteotomy (for Cats): A ventral bulla osteotomy is a procedure often performed on cats to address middle ear diseases such as chronic ear infections or tumors. By opening the ear canal to allow better access and drainage, this surgery can help alleviate persistent ear problems that may be affecting your cat's balance, hearing, and happiness.
  • Perineal Urethrostomy (PU) (for Cats): Performed on male cats with a history of multiple urinary tract blockages. Urinary blockages are a life-threatening condition. This surgery involves creating a new opening for urination, bypassing the narrowed or obstructed urethra.
