Cold Laser Therapy

At VCA Peone Pines Animal Hospital in Mead, WA, our dedicated team of veterinarians—including Dr. Sinclair, Dr. Pyrdek, Dr. Morley, and Dr. Goins—proudly offers cold laser therapy as a non-invasive, drug-free, and pain-free treatment option for your pets.

What Is Cold Laser Therapy?

Cold laser therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy, utilizes specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cell regeneration and enhance blood circulation. This process helps reduce pain and swelling in the affected area, promoting improved range of motion, mobility, and accelerated healing.

We incorporate cold laser therapy into every spay and neuter procedure, with the cost included in the surgery price. This approach aids in faster wound healing and minimizes the need for prolonged recovery.

Cold Laser Therapy for Dogs

Cold laser therapy is commonly used to help dogs recover faster and feel more comfortable in the following situations:

  • Muscle, joint, tendon, or ligament injuries – Helps reduce pain and improve mobility.
  • Osteoarthritis – Eases inflammation and discomfort in aging or arthritic dogs.
  • Post-surgical recovery Speeds healing for soft tissue surgeries and spay/neuter procedures.
  • Dental extractions Minimizes post-procedure discomfort and inflammation.
  • Ear infections Provides quick relief from pain and inflammation.
  • Traumatic wounds – Aids healing for cuts, scrapes, and injuries caused by dog fights.

Cold Laser Therapy for Cats

Cold laser therapy is a valuable tool for helping cats heal faster and stay comfortable:

  • Urinary health – Helps reduce bladder inflammation in cats with urinary crystals.
  • Soft tissue surgeries Accelerates healing and reduces discomfort.
  • Dental extractions – Supports recovery by minimizing swelling and pain.
  • Wound healing – Helps treat injuries from cat fights and burn wounds, including those sustained in the Oregon fire in 2023.
  • Arthritis and joint pain – Reduces inflammation and improves mobility in aging or arthritic cats.

Cold Laser Therapy for Exotic Pets

Cold laser therapy is also beneficial for our exotic patients.  We have used laser therapy for exotic pets (zoomed) to treat:

  • Muscle, joint, tendon, or ligament injuries.
  • Bumblefoot – Eases inflammation and encourages healing.
  • Oral ulcerations and dental disease.
  • Traumatic wounds – Aids healing for cuts, scrapes, and injuries.

What to Expect

Cold laser therapy sessions last between 5-20 minutes, depending on the area being treated. Some conditions may only require a single session, while others benefit from multiple treatments for the best results. Initially, treatments may be scheduled a few times a week, gradually tapering off as improvement is observed.

While owners are not required to be present for treatment, they are welcome to stay if they wish to provide comfort to their pet. There are no known side effects associated with cold laser therapy when used as directed. Laser is not recommended to be used on malignant cancers; ruling out cancer prior to treating will be discussed with you prior to beginning treatments.
