Tips to get pet fur off clothes and upholstery
We love fuzzy snuggles with our pet friends, but that doesn’t mean that we want the fluff to follow us all day long, stuck on our clothes and couches! So we’ve compiled a list of tips and tricks that can help tame the fur in dog and cat households. (Spoiler alert: Many of them have to do with reducing static cling!)
Give these methods a try to find the best fluff-busting solutions for your home:
- Put your furry clothes or cushion covers in the dryer with some dryer sheets. Or go eco-friendly with a reusable product, like a dryer ball or damp microfiber cloth. Don’t forget to empty the lint trap after every load!
- Run a clean, damp rubber glove—the kind you clean the dishes with—over the hairy surface. The rubber will attract the hair, and you can simply wash off the glove when it gets too fur covered. Don’t have a glove handy? You can also try a clean sponge, rubber squeegee or pumice stone.
- Spray a combination of water with a dash of fabric softener on upholstery to loosen up the hair before vacuuming. Then vacuum, vacuum, vacuum.
- Stick to the lint roller route. Stash one in your car for an easy, last-minute touch-up before work or a night out.
- Ran out of lint roller refills? Create one with tape wrapped around your hand, sticky side out.
- Use an anti-static spray to prevent pet hair from clinging in the first place.
Note: Not all of these options are appropriate for all fabrics, so be sure to check that your clothes and upholstery can handle the treatment before you begin.
Plus, don’t forget to control the fur at its source—your pet! Regular brushing can really cut down the amount of dander and fluff floating around your home.
