How to make your pet a social media star

make your pet a social media star

Does your pet have star quality? If there’s one thing the internet has blessed us with, it’s quality pet content. So if you think yours is ready to shine, get your phone ready, because they might just be the next big social media star! To help make your dog, cat, cockatoo, guinea pig (or whatever cutie you’ve got!) go viral, we have some great tips.

•  Find your angle. We’re not just talking about your pet’s best photo angle—we’re talking about their USP (unique selling point)! What makes your pet special? Do they have a distinctive feature? A standout personality? Or are they just better at posing than most humans? Whatever it is, make that your focal point in posts.

•   Use the ‘Gram. Instagram is a visual medium, so it’s the ideal platform to flaunt pictures or videos of your pet. And, if you have some serious cute-caption-writing skills, you’re all set! Once you get the hang of it and grow your base, you can add other platforms into the mix.

•   Give quality and quantity. Post great content often—at least once daily. Make sure your photos and videos are well-lit and framed. Use consistent hashtags to drive up engagement. We suggest making a list of the best ones (#dogsofinsta, #cute, #catstagram, etc.) and rotating them to reach a more diverse audience.

•   “Bark-eting” 101. Have a business mindset when it comes to your pet’s page—make professional cards or an online portfolio and pitch the account to relevant people or companies for collaboration. You never know what might go viral!

Now that we’ve given you some tips and tricks—ready, set, grow! We can’t wait to see how your pet does (hello, #petfluencer)! And, if you want to spread some social media love, follow us on Instagram @vca, Facebook @VCAAnimalHospitals and Twitter @VCAPetHealth.
