Dr. Bernstein joined the staff at VCA South Shore (Weymouth) Animal Hospital as Medical Director in 2004. He obtained his DVM degree from the New York State Veterinary College at Cornell University in 1971, and then completed an internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. After his internship, he joined the staff at Angell, where he became Director of Clinics and eventually Department Head of Medicine. He also held appointments as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Bernstein became board certified in internal medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1981. The author of numerous published articles, Dr. Bernstein was also a frequent lecturer at local, national and international continuing education seminars.

In addition to over 40 years of experience as a small animal internist, Dr. Bernstein has significant expertise in hospital management. He currently serves as our Medical Director Emeritus, focusing on recruitment and our internship program.
