Christine Fiorello, Staff Doctor (Pending License)

DVM, PhD, DACZM

Dr. Fiorello is a native New Yorker. She earned a bachelor's degree from Brown University, a DVM from Tufts University, and then completed a small animal internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. She earned a PhD in disease ecology from Columbia University, where she completed her thesis work on domestic and wild carnivores in Bolivia. She then moved south for a Zoological Medicine residency at the University of Florida, becoming board-certified in 2006. As part of her residency, she spent one year as a staff veterinarian for Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Dr. Fiorello spent three years as a faculty member at the University of Georgia Veterinary College, before making the big leap across the country to sunny California, where she was the Response Veterinarian for the Oiled Wildlife Care Network at UC Davis Veterinary School. She came to New Mexico in 2017 and spent two years as a staff veterinarian for the Albuquerque BioPark. She has special interests in anesthesia, internal medicine, and animal welfare.

In addition to dogs and cats, she has worked with a wide variety of wild and captive animals in the U.S. and Latin America. People frequently ask her what her favorite species is, and she finds it very hard to choose. If pressed, she will admit that river otters, cats, hyenas, rhinos, tortoises, hornbills, parrots, tapirs, siamangs, toucans, pelicans, oystercatchers, gannets, monitor lizards, raptors, penguins, owl monkeys, and okapi are definitely in the top ten.

Besides veterinary medicine, her many passions include reading, chocolate, and conservation. Tuppence, Calliope, and Penelope are three lovely cats who graciously allow Dr. Fiorello, her husband, and their son to live with them in the North Valley.
